The main objective of the secondment at Aalborg University was to investigate the reliability and aging of power-electronic systems and to develop condition-monitoring approaches for the early detection of degradation. The work focused on two complementary areas: the aging of electrical machine insulation and the reliability of Gallium Nitride (GaN) power devices. The overall aim was to contribute to the development of practical monitoring techniques that can support safer, more reliable, and longer-lasting power-electronic systems.
During the secondment at Aalborg University, two research activities were carried out in the field of power-electronic reliability and condition monitoring. The first focused on developing a low-cost approach for detecting insulation aging in electrical machines by monitoring changes in their electrical characteristics. The aging detection is based on high frequency motor models related to task 1.1. The second investigated the reliability of 650 V GaN power devices through accelerated aging tests, with the aim of identifying electrical parameters that can serve as indicators of device degradation. Together, the activities provided experimental insight into aging mechanisms in electrical machines and GaN devices and contributed to the development of condition-monitoring approaches for future reliable power-electronic applications.
